Cisco 7945 Sip Firmware Download
Audience This document describes the process to upgrade Unified IP Phones firware by an the means of an external TFTP server. This is usefull on situations like firmware upgrade over high delay WAN links that take a long time or can cause timeouts. Components used: - CUCM 7.1.5 - TFTPd32 - 7945 IP Phone Steps to follow: • You need to download the.zip file of the firmware you want to use in this case we'll use a SCCP version for the 8-5-2.
The zip file contains all the files required for the phone to be able to upgrade it's firmware. • Create a folder on your desktop and put it as the root directory on the TFTP32. • Uncompress the.zip file into the TFTP folder you created on the previous step as the root for the TFTP server. • Get the XMLDefault.cnf file from the TFTP of CUCM and save it in the same TFTP folder as the other files.
On top of that, to get the phones to even work right you have to use very specific versions of the SIP firmware as the phones are not designed to work with third-party phone systems that talk generic SIP messages. While I can tell you that Cisco recommends using SIP firmware 8.3.2 SR1S, I cannot provide the firmware files because of their.
The XMLDefault.cnf file will be used by the phone when is not able to find it's configuration file to identify the firmware version it needs to uprade to. This will allow to upgrade multiple phones without having to download each phone configuration file to the external TFTP server. For this you can use the Windows built in TFTP client.
• Modify in Notepad++ the desired phone model's firmware name so it will push the phone to upgrade to the chosen firmware. Tip: use the.loads file that you have on the TFTP folder and copy it to the.cnf file. • Change the TFTP of your IP Phone and reset it. You will see the phone contacting the TFTP server and start downloading the different firmware files. Here's a packet capture example of how it looks. You can see the phone will not be able to find the CTL, ITL or configuration file however the XMLDefault.cnf.xml will instruct the phone what firmware to download next.
• The phone will start downloading the firmware related files. • Make sure to update the Phone load Name or the Device Defaults before pointing back the phones to the CUCM server to prevent the phones from upgrading/downgrading their firmware again.
Since the phone already has the same firmware release that CUCM is instructing the phone will skip the firmware download process on every bootup.

I need to upgrade one of the 7945 ip phone to have SIP firmware instead of SCCP. Currently this phone has SCCP45.8-3-5S firmware.
But when I looked at the “Device Defaults Configuration” in UCM, we have the option for SIP Protocol. The firmware is called SIP45.8-3-5S, located under the SCCP firmware How can I push this firmware to have SIP45.8-3-5S. It seems that the Sip firmware is already available inside UCM? Should I change the Phone Load Name” in Phone Configuration to SIP45.8-3-5S? We are going to use this Cisco Phone for another platform but we need to have SIP firmware in it.
Thanks, -Sienz. Thank you for the reply. I have the instruction below but have few questions.
Switch the configuration on CCM from SCCP to SIP -> Does it mean that i have to swith all of the phones to SIP? Can we only do it for 1 phone? My phone is setup as auto register with SCCP firmware. My goal is to have 7945 phone with SIP firmware. We will use this phone in another platform. Can this bulk administration procedure do only for 1 phone?
I am just worry that i will make a change on all phone instead of 1 phone, Complete these steps in order to convert the SCCP IP Phones to SIP: • Go to Cisco CallManager Administration and choose Bulk Administration > Phones > Migrate Phones > SCCP to SIP. • Click Find after you select/enter the appropriate search criteria to list the phones that need to be migrated. • Click Next and choose the phone template from the drop-down. • Enter the job description in the Job Information area.
• Click Run Immediately in order to migrate phone records immediately or click Run Later in order to migrate at a later time. • Click Submit in order to create a job for migrating the phone records. In order to reset the phones, choose Bulk Administration > Phones > Reset/Restart Phones > Query.
